Ortho-Bionomy is a non-invasive system of healing that is useful in addressing many pain and stress conditions. Developed by Dr Arthur Lincoln Pauls, a British osteopath, Ortho-Bionomy supports the self-correcting capacity of the person through the use of gentle movement and positioning of the body combined with light compression into the joints. This engages the proprioceptive reflexes that are embedded deep within our muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Ortho-Bionomy stimulates long-lasting changes by re-educating the physiology so that it can effectively maintain balance and optimal functioning on it’s own.
After receiving Ortho-Bionomy sessions Hugh’s clients report experiencing pain relief, increased range of motion, greater ease of motion, better structural alignment and postural balance, increased relaxation, more efficient functioning, faster recovery times from injuries, a greater sense of self empowerment, increased vitality and emotional balance, and an increased sense of wholeness and wellbeing.
The Structure of an Ortho-Bionomy Session
Working with you, the client, fully clothed Hugh will usually work using a bodywork table although at times you may be seated or standing as well.
As the practitioner, Hugh will work together with you to identify and assess the stress related patterns that are contributing to your presenting issues or conditions. He will also identify the self-correcting patterns that your body is already undertaking to overcome your condition. This allows Hugh to employ the techniques of Ortho-Bionomy in a way that further facilitates this process and which specifically addresses your particular concern.
At the end of the session you may be given self-care exercises in order to allow a continuation of the release and the retraining of the body in it’s new pattern.
It is usually recommended that the client initially receive 3-4 sessions after which an ongoing programme of self-care and/or further individual sessions can be developed.
At no time will Hugh employ any movement or touch that causes pain or discomfort.
